PBIS stands for Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports system. This is a proactive approach that we use at Wilson to encourage our students to comply with the rules and standards of Wilson, in order to achieve social, emotional, and academic success. Emphasis is placed on maintaining desirable student behaviors throughout the entire school community, classroom environment, and small group settings.
PBIS handles school-wide discipline with school-wide systems of support that include proactive strategies for defining, teaching, and supporting appropriate student behaviors to create positive school environments. Instead of using a piecemeal approach of individual behavioral management plans on a wholesale basis, a continuum of positive behavior support for all students within our school is implemented in areas including the classroom and non-classroom settings, such as the lunchroom, schoolyard, and hallways.
